This error is because VMWare Fusion has not been given permission to run in your personal settings on your Mac.

Open VMWare Fusion and start your manual. You will get the error of loading the vmmon kernel module.

Close VMWare Fusion.

Go To ‘System Preferences’ >> ‘Security & Privacy’ >> Check if you are allowed to run apps from identified developers and there is no mentioning of a block application.

VMWare Fusion will probably be blocked, and after allowing it, the problem with the kernel module should be resolved.

If your manual is not in PDF format then you will need to install either VMware Fusion or VirtualBox on your mac in order to run the workshop manual.

VMWare Fusion

You will need:

  • The Unarchiver – download it from here. Or direct from the Appstore here.
  • VMWare Fusion – download it from here. You will need a unique serial number for VMWare fusion, please raise a support ticket here and we will provide you with it.

Download: If you have purchased a download, once it has completed move the download to a convenient location as you will need to extract the download using The Unarchiver and then run the manual using VMWare Fusion.

DVD: If you have purchased discs, then create a folder on your desktop and copy the entire contents of each disc to the folder you have just created you will then need extract the rar files using UnrarX and run the manual using VMWare fusion.

To install The Unarchiver and VMWare Fusion you may need to temporarily adjust your security settings as they are not being downloaded from the Appstore. To do this go to System Preferences then Security & Privacy then click the padlock in the bottom left and allow apps to be installed that have not been downloaded from the Appstore.

Now download VMWare Fusion from here. (You can install the application on a 30 day trial and then to activate the product get your unique serial number from us by raising a support ticket here).

Do not update VMWare fusion once it has been installed. Close it and move on to the next step.

Now download and install The Unarchiver from here.

Now extract the workshop manual .rar file or part 1 .rar if it is in multiple parts and the whole manual will extract leaving you a folder ready to use.

Now open the workshop manual folder you extracted and inside open the “VIRTUAL MACHINE” or “VM” folder, and locate the “.vmx” file (it has a red and blue icon) and double click it. This will run the virtual machine that will host your workshop manual. If the program asks you to upgrade please decline the upgrade and click the large play button to start the manual. Click through any error messages that may pop up, this won’t affect the workshop manual loading.

IMPORTANT: You will get a message asking you whether you “moved it” or “copied it”, you must select “I moved it” and OK.

A virtual machine of Windows XP is now loading. Once loaded  follow the Quick Start Guide on the desktop to run the manual.

If you are having any trouble you can raise a support ticket here and we will help you directly with your install.

VirtualBox

You will need:

  • The Unarchiver – download it from here. Or free from the Appstore here.
  • VirtualBox for Macs – download it from here.

Your workshop manual application has been pre-installed for you on a virtual copy of Windows XP or Windows 7 depending on the workshop manual. This makes it very easy to run on any windows operating systems including 64 Bit machines plus Apple Macs and saves you the bother of a complicated installation process.

To “play” the manual you need to install VirtualBox. You can download it for the Mac from our servers here:

Mac Virtual Box Player

Alternatively you can download the latest version (and the Linux version) direct from Oracle here:

https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Downloads

Download: If you have purchased a download, once it has completed you need to extract the download using The Unarchiver if you are on a Mac (links to download them are above). Once installed to extract the .rar file (or files) double click it (or part 1 if there are multiple rar files) and choose to extract it to a convenient location.

DVD: If you have purchased discs, then create a folder on your desktop and copy the entire contents of each disc to the folder you have just created and then extract the .rar files using The Unarchiver if you are on a Mac (links to download them are above), to extract the .rar file (or files) double click it (or part 1 if there are multiple rar files) and choose to extract it to a convenient location.

Once you have installed your version of VirtualBox close it and then you need to open your workshop manual with it to get your manual running.

For .vbox Manuals:

All you need to do, once you have installed Virtualbox is to close it, then navigate to your workshop manual folder and open the file that ends .vbox and your manual will run. There will be a quick start guide on the desktop of your virtual machine manual to get you going.

For .OVA Manuals:

If you haven’t already, open the VirtualBox player by double clicking the “VirtualBox” icon on the desktop or in your Applications folder, once open click File > Import Appliance.

A dialog box will open, click the folder with a green triangle on it.

Navigate to where you downloaded the .OVA file (usually your downloads folder or desktop), and select it.

Double click the .OVA file and the Appliance to import box will appear, click “Next”.

The Appliance settings box will appear. You must ensure “Reinitialize MAC address” is UNTICKED, and then click “Import”.

The import process will now take this. This can take a while dependant on how large the manual is and the machine you are using.

Once the import has completed the “virtual machine” (your workshop manual) will appear in the VirtualBox main window.

You are now ready to run your manual. To open it just double click the name on the left hand side. And your workshop manual will load. Once running you will find there is a “Quick Start Guide” notepad located on the desktop. This gives you full instructions on how to use your new manual.

We have a guide with illustrations here if you want an illustrated step by step installation guide.

When you are running your virtual machine for the first time there will probably be a couple of pop-up boxes telling you it cannot find a disc drive or hard drive connected, or the graphics rendering might not be fast enough. Don’t worry about any of these, simply choose the option which forces the program to continue, and it will all start successfully.
